How Evra makes money, what money can never buy, how we label links that may earn us a commission, and how we decide the order products appear in.

The short version
- When you buy through a "Buy from brand" link, the brand may pay us a commission. The brand pays it, not you.
- When our checkout opens, we will also make money by selling some products ourselves.

How we make money
Evra is a business, and we want to be open about where our money comes from. There are up to three sources.
Commission from "Buy from brand" links
Some products on Evra are sold by the brand itself. Instead of "Add to basket", they have a "Buy from brand" button that takes you to the product on the brand's own website. If you buy something there after following our link, the brand may pay us a commission: a share of the sale.

- You buy from the brand, under its own terms of sale, delivery and returns. Evra is not the seller. Read more in our terms of use.
- Sales are tracked through [PLACEHOLDER: affiliate networks Evra uses, or "directly with each brand"]. The link tells the brand, or the network, that you came from Evra. The brand or network may then use cookies on its own website to record the sale, under its own cookie and privacy policies.
- We do not run any affiliate network's code on our own pages. Our cookie policy and privacy policy explain what our website stores and collects.

Fees from partner brands

Products we sell ourselves
Products with an "Add to basket" button will be sold by Evra. We buy them from the brand and sell them to you, and we make money on the difference between the two prices. Our checkout is not open yet, so nothing can be bought from Evra at the moment.
Sample products
The brands and products on Evra at the moment are fictional samples, shown to preview how listings will look. They are not real, cannot be bought, and earn us nothing.
What money cannot buy

- The Checked badge. Our checks are described in How we choose. [PLACEHOLDER: confirm that every product goes through the same checks whether it earns us a commission, a fee or nothing at all, and that a brand cannot pay for the badge, or to skip any check].
- What we say about a product. We write and check our product pages ourselves. [PLACEHOLDER: confirm that brands cannot pay to change our wording, or to have a claim published that we cannot support].
- Reviews. We do not publish customer reviews or star ratings yet. If we add them, nobody will be able to pay for a better one, and we will explain how reviews work before any appear.
If we ever publish an article, list or other content that a brand has paid for, we will label it as an advert where you can see it before you read on.
How we label commercial links
Our commission note says that "Buy from brand" links take you to the brand's own website, that Evra may earn a commission if you buy, and that the brand's own terms of sale apply. It links to this page. This is where you will see it, and the other ways we mark these links:
- On pages that show several products. Shop, category, search, saved list and home pages show the note above the products whenever they include a "Buy from brand" button.
- On product cards. A short line under every "Buy from brand" button says "Evra may earn a commission".
- On product pages. The note sits next to the main "Buy from brand" button. On smaller screens, once you scroll past that button, a bar at the bottom of the screen keeps it in reach. The bar also says that Evra may earn a commission, and links to this page.
- In quick view. The note sits with the "Buy from brand" button.
- The button itself. It says "Buy from brand", never just "Buy", and opens the brand's website in a new tab. It tells screen reader users that too.
- For search engines. We mark these links as sponsored in our page code (rel="sponsored"), which is how search engines expect commercial links to be marked.
"Add to basket" products are sold by Evra, so they have no commission note.
How we order products
This section explains the main things that decide the order products appear in on Evra.
Shop and category pages
You can choose how products are sorted with the "Sort by" menu. The options are:

Filters, such as category, brand and price, narrow down the products you see. They do not change the order.
How we choose featured products

Search results
Search shows the best matches first. Products whose names contain more of the words you searched for come first, then the closest matches across the rest of their details: brand, category, key ingredients and short description. Products that match equally well are shown in alphabetical order. Commission and fees play no part in search results.
Paid placement
